My Name is James Llanos Jr son of James Llanos Sr and Cynthia Llanos, I am Tsimshian, Laksgiig, Gispaxlo'ots from the house of Spooxs.
I have been a member of ANB/ANS Camp 14 since 1998 – 99. I
am the current President of ANB Camp 14, I have also been a part
of Landless Natives of Ketchikan Inc. (one of the 5 Landless Communities) for 9 years as Secretary. In my years with ANB/ANS Camp 14 I have held all offices except one, Secretary. I have done
other positions that are not named, such as, Webmaster & I.T.
person for Camp 14, as well as Grand Camp. I have been one of
their cooks at fundraisers and I have been a part of numerous fundraisers and events. I have learned by doing and by watching
my elders and peers before me. People like Richard Jackson,
Mary & Willard Jones, Willard Jackson, Dick Whitaker, James &
Cynthia Llanos, as well as many others over the years.
With the approval of Camp 14, I was instrumental in obtaining
501c10 status for camp 14, I have created budgets for our camp
and alongside the ANS Treasurer Cynthia Llanos, we have seen
our camps financial stability, not only stabilize but solidify.
Additionally, with the camps approval, I was instrumental in the
creation of a new organization, The ANB/ANS Camp 14
Scholarship Program. This is a 501c3 organization, and as of
this year, this organization has an MOU with University of Alaska Southeast. We created an Endowment fund with UAS and in 5
years this Endowment will start to fund all of Camp 14’s UAS Scholarships and become self sustaining.
I have accomplished and learned a lot in my 20 years with the organization, and I feel I am ready to take the next step and learn
from ANB Grand Camp, its positions and ways of doing business
and everything it has to offer.
