Cyndi Reeves, Yup’ik Eskimo, originally from Lower Yukon village Alakanuk, moved to Craig Alaska in 2001. Yup’ik name Ayuryaar
derives from Tundra tea Ayuq…she was named after a great hunter. Cyndi was adopted Raven moity of the Yahgw Laanaas clan in 2012
by the Yates family in Craig,AK and given the Haida name, Ts’ah
Ts’aas Jaad which means Song Bird Girl. She was then gifted a
Tlingit name,
Shá xat k’ei,
“mountain roots” by the Martin family in Juneau.
Her involvement with her local camp was broadened in 2018 where
she was voted in to be a delegate at Grand Camp in Ketchikan.
Before that she was involved in helping with fundraisers for our local scholarship committee. She was voted in as the local Sergeant at
Arms for the year of 2018-2019.
Cyndi’s passion are singing and writing. She hunts and fishes and
has helped establish a local club called the Good Food Natural
Health Club which focuses on health and local harvesting. Her
passion for her state and its rich culture led to her writing a song
called, “Alaska, My Home & My Land” a prayer for her state and its people and all the richness that we are blessed with.
Her goal as Grand Sergeant at Arms for 2020-2021 is to continue learning from our elders of this organization and to help out where needed in technology and small projects within this beautiful
organization.
As her song states in the last verse, “together our people are uniting
as one”, she joins with other like minded to pursue this dream of
seeing our people strive for a spirit of Brotherhood and Sisterhood among all people.
